Pattaya German film screenings begin
6 Feb 2012
The Pattaya Rooftop Film Festival 2012 began on Friday with a showing of Good Bye, Lenin! at Pattaya’s DusitD2 Baraquda Hotel. The Bangkok Goethe Institute and the German Embassy in Thailand are staging the German film series to mark 150 years of Thai-German diplomatic relations.
The German language films will be shown every Friday for the following eight weeks in the Baraquda’s Sunset Lounge. Admission is free and the films are being shown with English sub-titles allowing non-German speaking cinema buffs to get rare glimpses of German culture and film making techniques.
This Friday, it is the turn of Elefantenherz (Elephant Heart) to grace the screen at the Sunset Lounge. This will be followed on the subsequent Friday by Im Juli.
Contemporary films Soul Kitchen, Cherry Blossoms, Knallhart (Tough Enough), Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) and Ein Freund von Mir (My Friend) will be screened on the following Fridays.
The last film of the series is Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) and this is scheduled to be shown on 30 March. This 2006 drama was the debut offering of iconic filmmaker Florian von Donnersmarck and garnered numerous accolades and awards as well as great critics’ reviews.
Filmgoers will be provided a choice of drinks for each screening. The DusitD2 Baraquda Hotel is located on Pattaya Second Road and is just back from the entertainment venues on Walking Street.
