The Wailers to play Pattaya Hard Rock
13 Jun 2011
Legendary reggae band The Wailers will be in Pattaya on Friday 17 June and are scheduled to play at the resort’s Hard Rock Hotel. The Ambassadors of Rock Tour brings Bob Marley’s one-time backing group to the Thai seaside resort as part of the celebrations for the iconic café chain’s 40th birthday.
Although the only original member of the band that backed Marley in the 1970s is bassist Aston Barrett, who goes by the moniker of Family Man, the group will play favourites that include ‘No Woman No Cry’ and ‘Get Up Stand Up’.
Barrett and his drummer brother Carly featured on the album Natty Dread, The Wailers and Bob Marley’s international breakthrough which saw them become household names. They were a part of the success story that has seen worldwide album sales of 250 million and several chart-topping singles.
Carly Barrett passed away in 1987, leaving Family Man as the sole beneficiary of the Wailers’ inheritance. The remaining Barrett has been an integral part of the band’s line-ups and live performances ever since, but as well as playing the popular oldies The Wailers also perform more recent compositions.
Tickets for this rare chance to see one of the world’s biggest cult groups play live have been set at 2,000 Baht and 2,500 Baht for VIP seats. The admission price includes two drinks.
The show will be held in the Hard Rock’s Hall of Fame and starts at 20:30. Event details and information about special concert-accommodation deals can be obtained at http://pattaya.hardrockhotels.net/index.php.
