Pattaya to get new water park
23 May 2011
Construction of a new multi-million Baht water park in Pattaya is scheduled to begin this August. The Russian based company financing the Ramayana Water Park complex in the Na Jomtien district of the Thai seaside resort hope that it will become one of Thailand’s most popular visitor draws.
Project manager Alan Mahony said that research had indicated that an attraction such as this would attract visitors from Bangkok, as it is within daytrip distance, as well as Pattaya holidaymakers. He said the name was in keeping with local folklore and the park would feature characters and scenes from Ramayana stories, with settings including a mystery monkey forest.
The initial 900 million Baht for the project is being funded by Russian company Sibirskoe Zoloto. This will provide the finance for the land purchase and construction of the theme park’s 14 different zones.
The complex will be located on a 16 hectare site, with exact planning still to be finalised. Whitewater West, based in Canada and global experts in water park design and installation, has been retained to provide the final plans and supply equipment for it.
Investors say the Ramayana should be finished by August 2012 and open to visitors two months later. They hope the Ramayana will pull in 700,000 visitors during its first operating year.
If visitor numbers reach forecasts, investors say they will add extra attractions or put up a luxury hotel nearby.
