THAILAND’S first solar and wind power plant will be fully up and running off the coast of Pattaya in the summer.
The alternative energy project on Koh Larn, seven kilometres from Pattaya Beach, will demonstrate the Kingdom’s determination to embrace a greener energy supply, claim government officials.
And a successful pilot project, featuring 45 wind turbines, is already producing electricity for offices in Pattaya city as well as street lights on Koh Larn itself.
The last phase of the project is to complete the Ray Building which will act as a tourist attraction and renewable energy resource centre.
There will be a restaurant, souvenir stall, landscaped garden and information centre all, of course, powered solely through green electricity.
Pattaya deputy mayor Ronakit Ekasingh said the project, situated on one kilometre of land on Samae Beach, would become a big tourist draw.
