No yawns at international bed race

THOUSANDS of spectators watched as forty participants competed for the title of champion at the second international bed race.

Many local teams took part and decorated their beds to resemble ships, cars, trucks and whatever else came to their imagination. There were also some brave contestants on wheelchairs.

A spokesman for the Pattaya Rotary Club, which founded the event, said there was more involvement this year by the resort’s numerous clubs, business organizations, local sponsors and even City Hall.

At the 11th hour, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) donated the major trophies, some that were designed in ‘Benjaron’ porcelain. Most of the success was credited to the “bed race’ committee for their promotional efforts.

The advertising was sponsored by Pattaya’s local media organizations. The main sponsors include Barter Card, Pattaya People, Global i-care and CTLS Language School.

This occasion began with the ‘Family Fair’ at noon with games, shopping and entertainment for all ages. The Bed race began at 4:45pm starting at Beach road and ending in the front of ‘The Avenue’.

The winners of the Bed Race was CTLS Language School, of Soi Yumet, who also happened to be one of the major sponsors. Before the prize distribution, there was a lucky draw consisting of over eighty prizes having a total worth of 170,000 baht. The grand prize was an electric bike worth 38,000 baht.

This has now become an annual occurrence so Pattaya City Hall has included this in their yearly budget.
